What’s Coming Up in The DC Universe

Can’t get your fill of the DC Extended Universe? You’re in luck, the next couple of years are set to be big ones for the comic book company as they compete with Marvel for their share of superhero screen dominance.

Joker – Juaquin Phoenix stars as Batman’s deadliest foe in a movie that promises to be a bit of a departure from comic book lore. Directed by Todd Phillips from a screenplay he co-wrote with Scott Silver, The Joker promises to frighten and thrill when it releases in October 2019.

Wonder Woman 1984 – Scheduled for a June 2020 release, Wonder Woman 1984 will once again see Gal Gadot reprise her iconic role as the Amazon Princess, this time set to square off against the Cheetah. The film will be directed by Patty Jenkins, who wrote it with Geoff Johns and David Callaham from a story written by Johns and Jenkins.

Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) - Directed by Cathy Yan from a screenplay by Christina Hodson, Birds of Prey will see Margot Robbie reprise her role as Harley Quinn, as she teams up with Black Canary, the Huntress, and Renee Montoya to save Cassandra Cain from Gotham City crime lord Black Mask. Set for release in February 2020, fans are already eagerly anticipating its arrival.

Aquaman 2 – Although it’s only scheduled for release in December 2022, it’s no surprise that Jason Momoa’s popular portrayal of Aquaman earned the franchise a sequel. Few details have been announced for the project, but David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick will be back to write the script and it will be produced by Aquaman director James Wan and Peter Safran.
